Error 1603 installing AppFabric 1.1

Installing AppFabric 1.1 on a Windows 2012R2 sever fails and the log contains this message:

AppFabric installation failed because installer MSI returned with error code : 1603

I have Google'd this but not found a fix so thought I'd ask here.  Any suggestions anyone?

Then I assume you have tried updating the PSModulePath variable to the following:

    %SystemRoot%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\Modules;C:\Program Files\AppFabric 1.1 for Windows Server\PowershellModules

Correct, that made no difference.  I also tried removing the variable altogether and manually creating the folder path (as they didn't exist).

Is there anything else useful in the log file?

OK, I've finally figured it out and made it work by setting the PSModulePath variable to this:

    C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0

(note I have removed the \Modules part of the path)

Now after a successful installation it has been set to this:

    C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Program Files\AppFabric 1.1 for Windows Server\PowershellModules
